No cards: Gluttony, Sloth

All 7: Rainbow Dark Dragon

And greed.

Anything I missed?

Dragunity Militum

Is awesome for summoning Dragunity Laevatiins, Misteals, and other monsters that can grab their own new equips when summoned.

And did I mention Dragunity Knights? Those are awesome to summon out as well.

Light and Darkness Dragon.

This post isnt about how good it is.

We all know how good it is. People who dont, please go play against a good monarch deck and feel it first hand.

Some Monarch decks run Two Light and Darkness Dragon. I mean, everything else is in place, why not stick this guy in?

Some decks even run three. These are especially scary.

Everyone knows Light and Darkness Dragon. However, this also means everyone knows how to get around it.

But doing so isnt easy. It takes resources and several card plays. So much to the point that most decent players will keep Light and Darkness Dragon in mind when playing against a deck they know has two or three.(but probally two).

But on the monarch/LaDD side, this fact means that people hold back cards that can beat LaDD instead of using them, and hence gives you a tiny advantage.

Which is where mind tricks come in.

If you run one Light and Darkness Dragon, you not only gain partial advantage but can trick the enemy into playing around, or at least expecting, two or three!

This gives you the fear edge that Light and Darkness brings with it, whilst not devoting deck space to getting two tributes easily.

I personally chose to run only one Light and Darkness Dragon in this manner. Running two is also viable.

Thats all for today.

Scar Red Nova Dragon

Is the 8th level 12 to be introduced into the game.

Whilst level 12s have ridiculously amazing monsters, they have been traditionally hard to summon.

Lets see:

Blue Eyes Ultimate

Ultimate Dragon Knight

Yubel Ver 3.

Sin Truth Dragon

God Neos

Etc etc.

Does Scar Red Nova Dragon manage to top all of this by being (comparatively) MUCH easier to summon whilst being, for the most part, pretty much better?

Thats all for today.

Dragunity Arms

Some think Misteal is better.

Others think Laevatiin is better.

Lets compare.

Misteal allows you to drop 3 from your hand in a row.

Laevatiin is big and can come from the graveyard.

Misteal's cost is retreivable(through either equipping the monster again or pot of avarice)

Laevatiin's cost is not.

Thats all for today.

The Return of the King

The newest and latest in Monarchs!

And yes, I was watching Lord of the Rings quite recently.

I was quite at loss for the deck name.

Here were some that didnt make it:

Monarchy
虚無獅子黄泉フェイダースティーラー寒波ライダー帝.deck (KyomuShishiYomiFeidaStiilaKampaRaidaTei.deck)
ジャスト・ファッキング・邪帝・イット(Just. F-ing. Gaius. It.)

On to the deck.

The Return of the King

Monsters/モンスター/24
2 Light and Darkness Dragon/光と闇の龍
1 Gorz the Emissary of Darkness/冥府の使者ゴーズ
3 Caius the Shadow Monarch/邪帝ガイウス
3 Raiza the Storm Monarch/風帝ライザー
2 Vanity Fiend/嘘無魔人
1 Tounge Twister/タン・ツイスター
1 Debris Dragon/デブリ・ドラゴン
2 Dandylion/ダンディライオン
1 Mashmallon/マッシュマロン
1 Sangan/クリッター
1 Spirit Reaper/魂を削る死霊
2 Treeborn Frog/黄泉ガエル
3 Battle Fader/バトル・フェイダー
1 Level Stealer/レベル・スティーラー

Spells/魔法/7
1 Brain Control/洗脳ーブレインコントロール―
1 Pot of Avarice/貪欲な壺
1 Heavy Storm/大嵐
1 Foolish Burial/おろかな埋葬

1 Allure of Darkness/闇の誘惑
1 Cold Wave/大寒波

Traps/罠/9
1 Solemn Judgement/神の宣告
1 Mirror Force/聖なるバリアーミラーフォース

1 Trap Dustshoot/ダッスト・シュート
1 Call of the Haunted/リビングデッドの呼び声
2 Dust Tornado/砂塵の大竜巻
2 Raigeki Break/サンダー・ブレイク

Unlike most monarch decks, this deck takes advantage of early game and generates, for the most part, its own Tribute Fodder.

The inclusion of Vanity Fiend is a rather personal choice.

In light of the Frog and Infernity meta, I feel that Testaros isnt quite enough in the additional slots.

Whilst it doesnt garner any advantage, nor does it let you continuously summon Monarchs, it does something Testaros cannot: Take ahold of tempo.

Testaros, forcing a discard, garners you not only card, but also partially information, as well as potentially tempo advantage.

However, it doesnt stop the opponent from going crazy the next turn.

Vanity Fiend does.

Whilst it does stop your own deck from going as fast as you want: You control this powerhouse of a card.

Also, Solemn Judgement can also be Dark Armed Dragon. Your call.

Other than that, I dont see much special stuff differing from other standard Monarch decks floating around.

Happy netdecking!

Thats all for today.

Monarchs and tribute fodder.

Most monarch players know how to play monarchs.

Get tribute fodder -> Tribute said tribute fodder -> Drop Monarch.

However, I have noticed that different people have different views(we just dont argue about which is best.) as to how said Tribute fodder can be attained.

We could divide the different views into a few general categories:

1: Make the tribute fodder with your own cards.

2: Steal the tribute fodder from your opponent.

3: Make sure your tribute fodder survives a turn.

Of course, there are a few more ways, such as 4: HOPE your Tribute Fodder Survives, and 5: PRAY your tribute fodder survives, but you most of the time, these strategies dont work quite as well and are easily overshadowed by the other three.

First off, all good monarch decks can take advantage of all of these. The big debate/argument is what balance is good.

For instance: Making the tribute fodder with your own cards include choices such as Cyber Dragon, Treeborn Frog(its a bit mixed with 3), Battle Fader, maybe Dandylion, D.D.Scout Plane, Kuriboh Summoning Flute, etc.

Stealing Tribute Fodder: Cross Exchange, Brain Control, Mark of Rose, Falling Down, Goyou Gaurdian, etc.

Keeping tribute Fodder Alive: Mashmallon, Spirit Reaper, Shiba Warrior Taro, Arkana Force 0, etc. Monsters with very high DEF can also fall into this category.

Now, cards that serve much more than just one purpose in the deck other than simply providing tribute fodder are the cards that are used most often. Also, cards that cover more than one category have been used in Monarch decks for a long time.

One example is a card that not only generates tribute fodder, but keeps itself alive: Gravekeepers Spy.

Also, most, if not all, monarch decks tend to use primarily one, but borrow from other types of tribute fodder.

Why? Because some cards are just too good in GENERAL to pass up.

Its hard to find a monarch deck that doesnt pack a Brain Control(class 2), and quite a few also use Cyber Dragon and Call of the Haunted(Class 1).

There are many weaknesses for each individual class.

Class 1: The tokens/small monsters you generate are SMALL and DIE EASILY. On the other hand, this type is the fastest.

Class 2: Too dependant on monster stealing cards, hence making the deck less stable. This type gets rid of enemy cards very well.

Class 3: Shield Crush/Nobleman of Crossout. Also, much slower than the other classes, simply because it takes two turns, not one, to summon out a monarch. This type garners a lot of advantage.

Different players obviously have different preferences suiting their own playstyle.

Also do note that nowhere in these categories does Ryko fit. IMO it doesnt do anything to help get your tribute fodder unless youre running a bunch of cards you want to mill(no, 2 Dandy and 2 Treeborn doesnt cut it), and ends up as a 1:1 trade. Its going to die in battle.

Thats all for today.

Until Next time, Just Gaius It.

Monarch Decks...

Was just brainstorming for Monarch decks, when I realized:

Dandylion + Monarch: 獅子帝

獅子帝 = Lion Monarch -> Lion King.

Frog + Monarch: カエル帝(more than often 黄泉帝 though)

Frog + Monarch = The Frog Prince.

Recruiter + Monarch = Conscriptor

Undead + Monarch = Lich King(Or a King that happens to be a Lich, or a Lich that happens to be a king!)

I guess that makes Green Baboon + Monarch something along the lines of Shrek? :S

In English deck naming, things are much simpler. Find something in the deck and stick an -arch after it.

EG: Two or even ONE Light and Darkness Dragon in your deck, with maybe more than two Caius? its LaDDarch!

Thats all for today.
